The base for my participation at Bosnia Rally 2025 will be my 2022 KTM 890 ADVENTURE R. Don’t get me wrong I love that bike. Even the precessor the 790 ADVENTURE (R or not) was such a great bike that back in time I didn’t stop talking about it. At that point I had and still have a 2010 KTM 690 SMC which we used to ride together (yes, she and me on a small little one-cylinder super moto bike). Because the 690 was too small for the both of use we started looking into alternatives and there it was a KTM 790 ADVENTURE R.

Anyways, as said, the base for the rally will be my 2022 KTM 890 ADVENTURE R which I bought in spring 2024 with roughly 6100km.

For those who don’t know the specs – it’s a two cylinder inline engine with 105hp and 100Nm, 6-speed gearbox and a lot of electronic helpers such as ABS, MSR and ride modes.
I got it with the rally package meaning the bike has a rally mode where you can adjust your wanted/allowed slip, it came with grip heaters and a luggage system. Unfortunatelly, the “touring” system with the silver plastic suitcases (will be my next project to sell those and replace them with the rugged aluminum system).

First thing I did – I removed that ugly headmask and replaced the complete front with a rally tower. I love the appearance of the rally bikes like the KTM 450 Rally Replica 2024. So that was my goal to go!

I decided to go with a rally tower from Rebel X (Rebel X 790/890 Rally Kit Street Legal). Why? There were to me at least several reasons. For the first, the Rebel X setup used as much as possible original parts from KTM as possible. Meaning the headlight mask, the underlaying fairing, lamps, basically everything you can “see” are original KTM which means you can always buy it later again as a spare part.

Besides the fact that almost all parts are available as spare parts too, it appealed to me that because they are original KTM parts you are still street legal. I know some people don’t care but it was important to me.

Last but not least the deciding fact was that I found this kit the best looking. It gave the 890 ADVENTURE a true Rally look what I knew from the factory racing bikes at KTM.

Installing the kit took me something like 4 hours – it was quite easy and straight forward but I took my time. I was off work too, so I didn’t have to rush or wanted to be rushed. Additionally it was a beautiful summer day so…

That’s it for todays post – thanks for reading! Next bike episode, I guess, will cover my exhaust and what I did here.
